Drumming Crazy!
I spent all day at St Johns today. During the half term the school received a big box full of djembe drums and also took delivery of several large rainsticks and a couple of really cool seed shakers.
So my group of pupils were really excited to try everything out. There’s some real rhythmic potential there and the staff have already mentioned “drum club”. I can see St Johns getting really good at the drums!
We’re using djembes and some other drums the school has in the Magic Sweet Shop song. We tried it today while the drama group and narrators group worked out their moves and speaking parts. The whole performance is starting to be threaded together now.
Next Tuesday I’m in to do more with the staff and pupil’s band and then for just an afternoon next Friday to do more practice with the pupil music group. The following week is the week of the performance so we’ve got a whole big day of dress rehearsal on Wednesday of that week before two performances on the Friday.
I’m real tired today, I was up early doing other work and then after school finished Lisa grabbed me, Rhys and Sydney to go help pick up some big canvas backdrop frames from the Forest Theatre. I’ll sleep well tonight!
