The first meeting…..
This morning I met with Rachel (Mrs Griffiths), Julie (also Mrs Griffiths), Sandra (Mrs Dowle), Anne (Mrs Kirby) and Terry (Mrs Sagar) for the first time. They all work at St Johns and all play musical instruments. Rachel and Anne are brass players, Julie is a pianist, Sandra plays the guitar and Terry is a drummer.
We’ve decided to form a music group. I’m going to play bass. The plan is to practice together at least once a week until the performance gradually increasing the size of the music group by bringing in pupils who play instruments or sing.
In the meantime I’m going to do some listening and songwriting workshops with years 3, 4 and 5 and get my inspiration from the pupils. They will come up with the words and lyrical ideas for the songs and I’ll put those ideas to music ready for the music group to learn and rehearse.
We’ll make recordings as we go along and I’ll post them up here as well so you can check our progress and maybe get a bit familiar with the songs before they are performed in June.
We’ve only got 7 weeks (including half term) to do this and we have to work alongside a bunch of other people like myself who have been commissioned as set designers, performance directors etc.
It’s not too clear at the moment what themes are emerging for the whole performance, but we’ll find out more next Wednesday when everyone who is involved in the project should be meeting together to find out a bit more.
So we’ve met each other and got a plan - a good start!
